Charente Maritime Cycling

Tour length:

This tour covers the heart of the region and the quieter back roads away from the main coastal EuroVelo 1 route. Tour length:

Pink flamingos, wild horses and black bulls. Lagoons, salt marshes, rice paddies, vast swamps and miles of sandy beaches. The vast wetlands of the Camargue offer the cyclist all this, between the sky and the sea. The Rhône estuary, which extends over 150,000 hectares in the south-west of Provence, is a unique natural landscape with a rich fauna and flora and a strong character. On this 6-day cycling trip, discover the Camargue with all its facets in a gentle and quiet way. Glide over dykes, sometimes along miles of sandy beaches. The pink flamingos are the most emblematic representatives of the rich natural world here –between April and September, 15,000 pairs gather. From the old Roman city of Arles, explore the eastern part of the Camargue and then close the circle via Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Aigues Mortes. Regional culture is also on the agenda: horse breeding, the extraction of the fleur de sel or the Camargue bullfight. And, of course, there are the culinary delights from both land and sea. Bon appétit! The price of this tour includes 5 nights in guesthouses and 2* or 3* hotels in double rooms with en-suite facilities, 5 breakfasts, 3 dinners (3- to 4-course menu) on days 1, 3 and 5 in your accommodation or close restaurants, daily baggage transfers, a carefully designed itinerary, navigation app for smartphones, a detailed road book including maps (digital format) and GPS tracks. Brittany occupies a peninsula jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean and is strong in seafaring traditions. It has wonderful beaches and pretty harbours, with its interior giving way to forest and ancient history. Normandy is a lush and verdant landscape, with agriculture at its heart – here, apple orchards feed cider and calvados production, while cattle are grazed for beef and cheese. Normandy is also dotted with impressive chateaux and manor houses, and historical villages. This tour starts in St Malo and heads west into Brittany before turning east for Normandy.
