This self-guided cycling tour around the Basque Country starts and ends in Biarritz, taking in the seaside culture, fishing villages and Franco-Spanish influences of the far south-west of France. It features towering cliffs and rugged rocks to sandy bays and an ocean as far as the eye can see. From Biarritz ride to the port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz before crossing the Bidassoa river for the Spanish influences on the other side. There is a little climbing here (400-1200m a day) as you head inland to see unforgettable landscapes dotted with white timber frame houses built centuries ago. Discover typical Basque villages and towns like Sare, Ainhoa and Saint Jean Pied de Port, a famous stop on the pilgrims' route to Compostela. At the end of each day, indulge in the flavours of the local cuisine – beware the Espelette pepper, the emblematic local spice. Starting price includes 5-6 nights in 3-star hotels and guesthouses, two evening meals, a boat crossing from France into Spain, all route notes and maps, including a GPS app with voice guiding, daily luggage transfers, and emergency phone support 24/7. Bike hire (including electrics) included on request.
Cycle the final 30 or 40km of the stage of your choice
Meeting in the morning near the Tour route at an easily accessible car park around 30km from the finish of the day's stage. Enjoy a breakfast of pastries and coffee and your guide. After adjusting your bike to your body shape, you'll set off for the last 30 to 40 kilometres to the finish line of your chosen stage. A guide will cycle by your side throughout the day, while you'll also have van support so that you can move at their own pace. Like the TDF peloton, the roads will be closed for the occasion and an official car will escort you across the finish line to the cheers of the crowds already lining the roads. Afterwards, you'll have the privilege of standing on the official podium of the Tour de France – an unforgettable memory. A gourmet picnic will be provided as close as possible to the finish and you'll be able to enjoy it as the pro riders whizz by. The price of this tour does not include bike hire, although lots of options are available if you can't bring your own bike. Please note that at the time of writing the website for this tour is in French only, but the team at Rêve de Vélo will be happy to answer any of your questions in English over the phone or by email.

Dijon – the historical capital of Burgundy – is the start and end point of this circular self-guided cycling holiday. While larger Mediterranean cities and celebrity hotspots get lots of hype, the glistening azure coastline and rainbow-hued houses of Cassis are no less eye-popping. This seaside town remains a working fishing port, which makes it all the more appealing. The route to Cassis is as blissful as the destination. Imagine riding by a mountain cloaked in holy legend (Sainte Baume), past the sunny yellow buildings of Aix-en-Provence, through scenes captured so beautifully by Cezanne (Mont Saint-Victoire), and Van Gogh (Alpilles). Many unsuspecting cyclists and would-be artists have come to explore this glorious region and have ended up quitting their day jobs and buying a fixer-upper farmhouse or seaside cottage here. After a week of riding, you may be compelled to follow suit! Daily mileage is between 44km and 73km on gentle terrain. The price of this self-guided tour includes 7 nights' accommodation, breakfasts, luggage transfers, roadbook via an app (when used as a GPS, no data plan is necessary), tourist information is also provided on the app. Roadside assistance if available needed.

A backroad cycle tour along the beautiful coast of Normandy
The northern French coast is a delightful array of contrast, light and atmosphere – painters, after all, never choose an area by chance. Not a few painters fell in love with Normandy, but an entire movement – it was here that Impressionism was born. Between the grey and blue hues of the English Channel, the ever-changing skies, the white chalk cliffs of Etretat, the traditional ochre cob of the houses and their abundant flower arrangements, the Côte d'Albâtre is far more colourful than one imagines. The Impressionists found a neverending source of inspiration here and so too do cyclists as they follow this section of the EuroVelo 4 La Velomaritime. It's a superb mix of quiet coastal backroads, interspersed with charming fishing ports, small villages and cliffs. Visit the wonderful Fécamp, Saint Valéry en Caux and Veules les Roses. The route follows the coastline towards the estuary of the Baie de Somme with its nature reserve and birdlife. Take the time to appreciate the Belle Epoque architecture of Mers les Bains and the medieval Saint Valéry sur Somme before finishing your journey in the small fishing ports along the bay.

Water is a major feature in this self-guided tour as it follows the Drome River as it winds its way between the plateau of the Vercors and the small mountains of the Diois. It's a delicious mix of the Alps and Provence. Ride through quiet valleys full of orchards, vineyards and sunflower fields, and through rolling hills of boxwood, pine and lavender. Imposing mountains and cliffs loom overhead, in an alpine decor of beech and spruce forests. Crystal-clear rivers and streams abound, offering plenty of opportunities to stop for a swim. Cross numerous sleepy hamlets and villages full of traditional stone-built houses and pretty squares and fountains. Small, shaded café terraces offer a welcome break from riding. The Diois is a major wine-producing area (famous for the Clairette de Die), and you will see plenty of "caves" offering wine-tasting opportunities. Price includes B&B accommodation, most evening meals, baggage transfer, detailed road book, maps and GPS tracks. Cycle through the forests, orchards and vineyards of the French Jura
From Lons le Saunier to Besançon, this 6-day self-guided cycling trip takes you through the rolling Jura mountains that separate the Swiss from the French, and also borders Burgundy. It is a wonderful alternative to cycling in the Alps or in the more touristy areas to the west. Montbéliard cattle graze peacefully in the pastures, famous mainly for the cheese made from its milk, the delicious Comté. They will be our ever-present as you make your way through the wonderful countryside: forests and wild gorges, lakes, wildflowers, orchards, vineyards and rich green meadows, unspoilt traditional villages and hamlets. Explore the classified wine villages of Arbois or Château-Chalon, the imperial abbey of Baume-les-Messieurs, the royal salt pans of Arc et Senans and the picturesque village of Ornans. All that's missing is a typical aperitif: a bite of fruity Comté cheese paired with a good glass of vin jaune. The price of this tour includes accommodation in 2* and 3* star inns and hotels, breakfasts, baggage transport and a detailed road book, maps and GPS tracks.

Always on the lookout for contrast, light and atmosphere, painters never choose an area by chance – and these places tend to also be great places for holidays, places to wind down and relax. It wasn't just a few painters who fell in love with Normandy, but an entire movement. From the grey and blue hues of the English Channel to the ever-changing skies, the white chalk cliffs of Etretat, the traditional ochre cob of the houses and their abundant flower arrangements, the Côte d'Albâtre is far more colourful than one imagines. The Impressionists had stumbled upon a never-ending source of inspiration. It's an inspiration as well for this cycling tour: a superb mix of quiet coastal backroads, interspersed with charming fishing ports and small villages, the cliffs of Etretat, but also the wonderful Fécamp and Veulettes-sur-Mer. The price of this tour includes and 2* or 3* guesthouse or hotel accommodation, breakfasts, daily baggage transfers, a carefully designed itinerary, navigation app, detailed roadbook including maps (digital format) and GPS tracks. 25-50km a day depending on your preferred difficulty level.
