Jess and Mark are keen road cyclists and offer unguided, or fully guided, road cycling holidays from their luxurious, fixed base accommodation complete with pool. The Lot et Garonne has quiet country roads and rolling hills, making it ideal for intermediate cyclists in particular. Ride distances and difficulty can be tailored for you. The area has superb scenery, including river valleys, chateaux and castles, medieval hilltop Bastide towns and rural landscapes. Freewheeling France knows (and cycles) the area east and south-east of Bordeaux often and, let me tell you, it's hugely underexplored on two wheels. Sue and Willy offer a lovely base at Peche de Vigne for cyclists who want to dig a little deeper into the area around Sauveterre – a major stopping-off point on the Bordeaux-Toulouse bike route. All too often cyclists pass through here but don't allow time to get off the main route – this Entre 2 Mers Discovery Tour, based at Sue and Willy's B&B, gives you the chance to do just that. This area is rich in history – and vineyards. Within reach of Bordeaux but also far enough away to offer an idyllic rural village feel, its combines quiet local roads and local greenway routes with undulating hills and river rides. Cycle to the UNESCO-listed wine town of Saint-Emilion, discover the bastide town of Monsegur or ride the bike path to Bordeaux.
