Les Artigaux is in the Val d'Azun, with stunning views of nearby Arrens village and the mountains. There is a converted barn plus 4 fully furnished apartments (with a hot tub and sauna for tired muscles) ready and waiting for cyclists. The property is located just off the road to the Col du Soulor, which leads on to the Col d'Aubisque. Other climbs within striking distance are the Hautacam, Luz-Ardiden and the Tourmalet. There are also a number of challenging lesser known climbs on quiet back roads (Simon has ridden most of them and can offer lots of local advice). Val d'Azun also has about 400km of marked mountain bike routes from steep climbs and descents, to trails through the woods and wide open rides around the cross-country ski pistes. Free wifi. Camping Village de la Guyonnière is 11 kilometres inland from the Atlantic Coast beaches at Bretignolles-sur-Mer. Run by cyclists, this is an ideal Vendée region base. Endless hours of sunshine combine with countless family friendly cycle paths to make this a great area for cyclists of all abilities. The campsite, located on the shores of the Jaunay lake (perfect for canoeing, jogging, fishing and biking), is spacious with a focus on families and nature. There are tent, caravan and motorhome pitches, as well as self-catering 'glamping tents' and chalets for all types of campers. This is a 5-star campsite with all the facilities you'd ever need to rest and relax after a day on the bike. When not cycling there's an indoor and heated waterpark with slides and countercurrent river, bar and restaurant, a wellness centre, and a shop, plus a games area for kids small and large (including adults...). You can also discover Ile d’Yeu and Ile-de-Noirmoutier (home to the 2018 Tour de France Grand Depart) – both within reach for a daytrip if you're arriving by car. Weekly mountain bike and road cycling rides run from the site, as well as bike hire availableFrench, English, Dutch, German spoken. Yep, this may very well be the spot for your next cycling holiday in France. Le Village du Bois is a small group of six self-catering gites 70km north of La Rochelle. Each gite sleeps between 2 and 15 people. You can hire one or a combination of gites to match your group numbers (up to 37 people can be accommodated here). Each is full self-contained, with access to the pool. This is a secluded spot on the edge of forest but close enough to the local village to ensure you have everything you need at your fingertips. The beaches of the Atlantic coast are a short ride away. This is an ideal base for solo riders and couples, as as well as family groups and clubs.

Les Aulnettes is a small, family run holiday park in the south of the Vendée region just 10 minutes from the sandy beaches of the Atlantic Coast. The family friendly park has 10 Finnish wood-log cabins, each set on about 400 square metres of land, with a private car parking space. The park has a swimming pool and 'La Stabul', a dedicated area with table tennis, darts, table football, and internet access. There's also a bar area and a 42-inch TV – perfect for watching the Tour de France or World Cup matches in summer. This is a cyclist-run site and – like the wider Vendée region – it has a warm heart for cycling, with annual Tour de France themed games organised on site. There are great local bike routes from the gates for riders of all abilities (there's a biking guide available from the local tourist office or ask Frans and Irene for local advice).

Soulac-sur-Mer is locataed at the northern tip of the Medoc peninsula, near where the ferry crosses to Royan. If you're on an Atlantic Coast biking trip, or simply exploring the vines of the Medoc, there's a good chance you'll be passing by here. Choose whichever accommodation suits you and your group – B&B or self-catering apartments or, for larger groups, the rental of an entire house. On the Atlantic Coast La Velodyssee path, you're right on sandy beaches and in the centre of town. In Soulac itself there's a bike shop with hire (bikes plus trailers) for all ages. These are not your average mobile home chalets. They are set in the grounds of an 18th century chateau which is also home to a modern and well-equipped campsite. There are 2 or 3-bedroom chalets and each is supplied with bedding and towels along with nice touches like olive oil, balsamic vinegar, hand lotion, and the all important tea and coffee supplies. The park itself has indoor and outdoor pools, plus a fishing lake, bar, restaurant and takeaway. Peyloubère is a lovely 35-acre estate 6km south of Auch (and 80km west of Toulouse) with flexible accommodation for groups as well as solo cyclists. This is beautiful, relatively undiscovered cycling country with a network of small roads and well-maintained cycling tracks (see here for more about cycling in the Gers). Auch is on the Arles to St Jacques de Compostelle route, while the Pyrenees are also within reach. Theresa, who is super keen to welcome more cyclists, offers B&B as well as 5 self-catering cottages for between 2 and 8 people. There is a spa with jacuzzi and sauna for tired muscles, plus a pool, gardens and meadows to relax in and explore. Situated in the heart of Cathar country, Confort du Sud is just 50km south of Carcassonne in a small but popular village in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The owners, Ade and Leesa, are keen to see more cyclists enjoy their local area. The house sleeps up to 8 and has everything you need to enjoy a peaceful break in the French countryside. There's a small enclosed rear garden with tables, chairs, loungers and a shade sail offering views of the nearby chateau. The house itself has a fully equipped kitchen along with washing machine, and there is indoor storage area for bikes (complete with security shutter). There are also three bikes that you can borrow to explore the gentle cycling nearby. There's a swimming lake (with lifeguards in summer) plus fishing. This is an ideal base for cycling clubs (and perfect for tackling the Figure of Hate sportive). Also great for families or groups with some cyclists and some non-cyclists.
