Mende is a great base for cycling. It's something of an off-the-beaten track destination, slightly less so recently thanks to a few appearances on the Tour de France route. It makes a great destination for cycling due to is its proximity on the edge of the wonderful Cévennes National Park. There are lots of MTB routes here, along with quiet road routes through beautiful gorges. Hotel de France is based in the centre of town and has a lovely terrace for dining.
