This fabulous itinerary takes you a little off the beaten track in the wider Bordeaux wine region. Based around Europe's largest river estuary, it explores two different sides to the Bordeaux region. First, bike through the prestigious vineyards of the Medoc. Take the "wine road" around some of the most famous chateaux in the world. Then cross the Gironde estuary by ferry to Royan and continue up through the Charente-Maritime, Haute-Saintonge and Haute Gironde. Bike around the cliffs and villages of Talmont, Blaye and Bourg. Dip into the Charente to meet winemakers specialising in Cognac and Pineau – a tipple unique to this part of the world. Visit Romanic churches, cycle by windmills, castles and Gallo Romanic sites. This self-guided itinerary follows a mix of bicycle paths through forests and flat backroads alongside streams and vineyards. We take care of transporting your luggage to the next accommodation so that you fully enjoy your daily ride. After each day’s cycling stay in some of the region’s best hotels and charming guest houses. Luggage transfers included. Regular bikes and ebikes are available. This is an itinerary design, tried and tested by the team at Evazio, local cycling and walking experts based in Bordeaux.
