We stayed at the Hotel L'Abreuvoir and were very impressed. It's around 3.5km to the Nantes-Brest Canal, which is on La Vélodyssée, the Euro Velo 1 bike route. Reception has a map of the safest route linking the hotel to the canal to ensure you avoid main roads (email or phone ahead if you need a copy emailed to you). There are also two 'house' bikes available for guest hire if you are travelling by car and stopping off from the main Rennes-Nantes autoroute and fancy a pootle along the canal during an overnight stay. The hotel is part of the Logis chain of independently owned and run hotels. Its restaurant is excellent, with menus based on local produce (and fresh eggs from the chickens poking around the car park). Even the children's meal was gourmet standard – our two kids (8 and 11 at the time) enjoyed a proper steak cuts with chips and salad – there wasn't a steak hache or chicken nugget in sight. Pool for summer. Lockable garage + tools and a washdown area for bikes. Well sign-posted. This is an eco-friendly hotel – there are even three electric car charging points for guest use.
