It's not like you need any excuses to visit the Dordogne – after all it's one of the most picturesque regions of France and it's dotted with must-see attractions (if you need further convincing, see here for cycling in the Dordogne and here for cycling in the north of the Dordogne).

But if on the off chance you DO need an excuse, then what about the Tour de la Dordogne from July 2-5?

The race is held over 4 stages, which between them cover all corners fo the region and pass many of its finest sites.

Here's where it goes in the department (guess ths event sponsor!)

Tour de la Dordogne

Here is each stage, including a link to route maps on the (messy) official French site:
Stage 1, Thursday July 2: Creysse-Lac de Gurcon (the Laurence of Arabia bike trail also takes in Lac de Gurcon)
Stage 2, Friday, July 3: Rouffiac to Jumilhac le Grand (it was Faye at Dordogne Gites 4 All who reminded me about the Tour de la Dordogne – it passes right by her place at Jumilhac le Grand)
Stage 3, Saturday, July 4: Individual time trial at Mensignac
Stage 4, Sunday, July 5: Sanilhac to Boulazac
