Tour de France organisers have announced a one-day pro women's bike race will precede the arrival into Paris of the men's Tour de France peloton in 2014.
In a landmark event that sees the return of women's racing to the Tour de France, 'La Course by Le Tour de France' will see the world's best female riders racing through the heart of Paris in front of millions of spectators both in the French capital and live on TV.
Full details of the race are expected in April or May.
The announcement follows a high-profile campaign last year that saw some of the world's elite female riders push for the re-introduction of a Tour de France for women. The women's Tour de France was scrapped after the 2009 event, with organisers citing a lack of sponsorship.
