Published by Lyn on 10 April 2015

Mary emailed to ask about electric bike hire for Alpe d'Huez. Here's what I came up with.

Hello Lyn,

Quick question: Where can I rent a power assist /electric bike near Alpe d'Huez? We are bringing non-cyclists to France but want them to experience the wonderful climbs.

I hope you are well and cycling much.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Mary.

Hi Mary

Electric bikes are becoming very popular, with some regions like Alsace and Provence making them available via tourist authorities to help negotiate hills or longer routes.

They don't have them on their website but I understand Cycle et Sports have electric bikes for Alpe d'Huez. Will at Bleach Xtrem Sports also has them – Gill at Chateau d'Oz uses Will for her guests' bike hire and recommends his service (he speaks English).

Try them first – if you get stuck, come back to me and I'll see who else has them.

You can check the map below for cycling accommodation in the Alps, or you can browse my recommendations here.

For more on Alpe d'Huez, see here. This blog may also be of interest for maps and other resources.

There is an overview of electric bikes here. You may be also interested in Gary and Rachel's blog – they are tackling the world distance record for e-bike touring.

Cheers.
