Tavistock in Devon will host a cycling festival to celebrate the official launch of the Tour de Manche bike route on June 22, 2013.
Tavistock in Devon will hold an Anglo-French Cycling Festival on Saturday, June 22 to celebrate the launch of the Tour de Manche cycle route, a cross-Channel bicycle route that links England to France.
The festival will feature stalls and demonstrations from local cycling experts, including the guys at Dartmoor Cycles, Dartmoor Electric Bike Company and Vintage Bikes. Other highlights will include a French continental market, an English farmers’ market, and local entertainment. The Michelin-star French chef, Jacques Marchal, will also be holding cooking demonstrations in the town square.
The Cycling Festival starts at 10am. Related events are taking place in Brittany and Normandy to mark the opening of the bike route.
It is hoped the Tour de Manche bike route will be a big tourist drawcard for Devon and the rest of south-west England.
In west Devon, the route follows Drake’s Trail and the Granite Way. It also crosses the new Gem Bridge and passes through Brunel’s Grenofen Tunnel. The Devon section of the route also links up to form part of EuroVelo 1 European cycleway that continues down the Atlantic Coast of France after leaving England and crossing to Roscoff.
