Bike route linking Trélissac on the north-east outskirts of Périgueux, the capital of the Dordogne, to Thiviers.
Distance: 46km
Difficulty: Moderate (see profile below for the direction of Perigueux-Thiviers).
This is a new signposted route linking picturesque Thiviers, end point of the Voie Verte de St Pardoux la Rivière à Thiviers en Périgord Vert (which is at the end of the Flow Velo bike route) to Perigueux, the capital of Dordogne. From Perigueux you can take the V90 bike route back towards Libourne and Bordeaux.
This is a lovely route and it can easily be adapted to cut out some of the 'diversions' that keep you off main roads. For example, we cut the final river stretch out and took the faster D5 main road from near Le Change. This may not be so attractive an option in high summer when the D5 is busier.
We also recommend a detour to Excideuil for lunch. At Excideuil you can also pick up the Lawrence of Arabia route.
This route can be hilly in parts (see elevation above). While mostly it follows the river with lovely tarmac stretches, there are some lumpy forest climbs that may be beyond younger riders or newer cyclists. There are also a few dirt sections that will be heavy going on a road bike.
In total I did 68.5km using this route + taking the lunch detour. It included about 600m of climbing (ask for a follow for my Strava).
