The Euro Velo 8 Méditerranée à Vélo bike route connects Spain to Italy via the south of France. It also links with the Canal du Midi.
Distance: 850km
Difficulty: Moderate-difficult, depending on the section. It's a varied route that starts at the western end in the Pyrenees.
The French section of Euro Velo 8 joins Spain to Italy via Provence and the south coast of France. It is a useful route as it manages to help cyclists avoid the busy coastal road that can be unpleasant, espeecially in high summer. The western section starts in the Pyrenees and shares some of the Pirinexus route. It links near Avignon to the Via Rhona route to Lyon/Geneva, provides a bridge to the Canal du Midi and crosses various signposted bike routes in Provence, including running concurrently for 37km with this wonderful local (flat) section. The full EV8 runs more than 1500km and links Spain to Greece.
