Ride through history to La Sauve abbey

Cycle through the countryside south-east of Bordeaux, taking in Abbaye de la Sauve Majeure – a UNESCO Heritage Site – on the way.

Distance: 70km
Difficulty: Moderate - it has 680m of undulating hills

Start your ride in Sauveterre on the Bordeaux to Toulouse bike route – and ride through a series of picturesque villages such as Coirac, St Genis du Bois, Cantois and Soulignac, before arriving at the impressive abbey of La Sauve – Abbaye de la Sauve Majeure – a UNESCO World Heritage Site on a Compostella pilgrimage route. The return journey back goes for a large part via the Roger Lapébie bike path, a converted railway line that links Bordeaux to Sauveterre.
