The Entre Deux Mers is one of south-west France's wonderful surprises (Freewheeling France knows this because it's not far from our own base and we ride the area south-east of Bordeaux often). This fully guided tour lets you in on the secret. It starts on the Atlantic coast at La Rochelle before winding down through the vines of Bordeaux, crossing some of the country's most prestigious wine appellations, including the Médoc, Entre Deux Mers, Graves and Armagnac. But it's not all quiet country lanes and glasses red overlooking gently sloping hills and river banks: there is also Bordeaux itself, that exquisite, magical old city on the banks of the Garonne, and the Toulouse, France's elegant old 'Pink City’. There are options for either camping or B&B, so you can decide on your preferred accomodation. Price includes tents and camping kit (and a support car to carry them for you), all breakfasts and lunches plus three evening meals (you'll want to wander off to sample the local cuisine on the other nights). Bike are also included if you're not bringing your own. You can link this tour to the Atlantic Coast and Canal du Midi trips to make your way from the north of France to the south.

The Aveyron is an area known for its superb food and an abundance of local produce. It also has some of the best cycling in France, so it’s an ideal place to enjoy a gourmet cycling break – and we all know that food and cycling make perfect partners. Eating nice food is even better when there’s no guilt attached – simply use it to refuel or ride it off the next day! This tour is based around the very best restaurants the region has to offer. Distances are reduced to give you the time to enjoy long, leisurely lunches en route, as well as the very best evening meals after your ride. Peter at St Antonin Noble Velo can also arrange visits to local producers from your base – a 16th century auberge within riding distance of three wine producing areas. There is also a wealth of other producers, especially cheese. This themed break is usually self-guided using a GPS, but ask about guided rides of you prefer to cycle with a local. Prices include accommodation, breakfasts and rides – pay as you go for restaurant food, depending on your tastes. Vegetarians and cyclists with other dietary requirements are more than welcome.
