Chalet La Folie is a spacious apartment within easy reach of Alpe d’Huez (and its gondolas for summer MTB or TDF access), and close to local shops, restaurants and bars. This is a great base for cycling many other the famous cols, too, including the Glandon, Croix de Fer and Galibier. Bourg d’Oisans is nearby and is something of a Mecca for road cyclists –the famous Marmottes race starts and finishes there as well as many other routes. Mountain bikers have a huge area to discover, and many ‘VTT’ events are held on the challenging terrain around of Oz. The famous Megavalanche takes place in July every year – starting at the top of Pic Blanc in snow and cycling a huge descent into Sarenne gorge. Walkers have Les Ecrins national park and wonderful, signposted walking from the door, or lovely ridge walks between the gondolas. Many wonderful mountain restaurants are also open in summer. The chalet sleeps 10 people in four bedrooms and there's a swimming pool, hammam and sauna in the chalet development to rest weary legs. The owner Alison is flexible about check-in during summer months.

The mythical 21 bends of Alpe d'Huez are just around the corner from Le Château d’Oz. The Oisans has more than 30 routes, including famous stages from the Tour de France. All routes start from the door. Transport is available in the chalet's minibus by arrangement. Free wifi. The cyclist-run Chalet Pitu is positioned right in the centre of the beautiful, traditional and quaint village of Venosc with its
restaurants, bars, boutiques and artisan shops. Venosc is 12km from Bourg-d'Oisans and is uniquely positioned for some of the best cycling in the Alps. It sits on one of the most picturesque and quiet climbs in the area including the ride up to the village of La Berarde on the very edge of the Ecrins national park. For those looking to emulate their heroes from the Tour de France, a number of famous climbs are within easy riding distance, including Alpe d’Huez, Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Glandon, the Galibier and Col du Lauteret. The gondola is a 5-minute stroll from the chalet and takes mountain bikers directly to Les Deux Alpes in 6 or 7 minutes, opening up lots of world class off-road runs. The run back down to Venosc from Les Deux Alpes in particular should not

Hotel Chalet d’Antoine is a small, well-established chalet – founded by the current owner Simon Butler over 30 years ago – specialising in chalet-hotel holidays throughout the summer (as well as in winter for skiers) in the beautiful resort of Megève in the Haute-Savoie. The Alpine-style hotel is a great base for exploring the mountains and is popular with cycle groups, who use the hotel as a base, including for the Haute-Route and 2016 Tour de France race stages. There is a secure bike room in the basement, which is accessible from inside and outside the hotel, plus a cosy lounge and bar to relax in the evening and plan the next day's rides. Chalet Saskia is an award-winning chalet in Vaujany, an alpine village resort near Bourg d’Oisans – a hub for cyclists climbing Col de Croix de Fer and riding the Marmotte circuit, which features the Galibier and Alpe d’Huez. There are 10 bedrooms, all with an en-suite bath or shower rooms, and balconies. There are three large reception rooms, including a games room with table tennis and bar football. Offering half-board accommodation with meals, the chalet has an excellent reputation for its cuisine and standard of care. Very large, lockable garage with wall brackets and stands. The owners, Nigel and Jamie, are super-keen to see more cyclists use the chalet – they have a minibus with bike trailer for transfers, plus they can help with transport up/down the valley, or to ride start/end points.

Alpine Velo run a friendly catered bike chalet just below the ski resort of Plagne Montalbert and not far from Bourg-Saint-Maurice, in the northern French Alps. Situated in a tiny mountain hamlet with breathtaking views across the mountain tops, the chalet can be rented room by room if you’re a couple or small group of friends, or on a sole occupancy basis for groups of up to 12. There are more than 10 stunning high altitude Alpine cols and climbs you can start and finish at the chalet, including 4 featured regularly in the Tour de France. This is a great base in particular for the Col de la Madeleine and the Cormet de Roselend. The chalet itself is stylishly renovated and has lots of rustic alpine charm. There’s a large sitting room with log stove, a dining room, 5 bedrooms with private bathrooms (all can be twins or doubles), sunny terraced gardens, an outdoor sauna and a secure bike store with workshop area. Chalet Les Tissourds is a wonderful Maison de Pays that has been beautifully restored and refurbished, a self-catered chalet in a class of its own. Built originally in 1924 the chalet is very well located, just a 5-10 minute stroll to the centre of Chamonix and near some fabulous restaurants. Situated in a quiet road it has wonderful views up to Mont Blanc, the Glacier des Bossons and across to Brévent on the other side of the valley. It's accueil velo-rated and the 2017 Tour de France route is on the doorstep. A modern design within a traditional setting, the chalet is a delicious mixture of old and new. On the ground floor there is an open-plan kitchen and living room with French windows that open out onto a pretty garden, plus a kit room and a cloakroom. On the lower ground floor there is a cosy snug with sofas, beanbags and a 130cm screen, where you can chill out with some DVDs. Next door is a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer. Relax in the jacuzzi, which is in the garden and enjoys wonderful views of Mont Blanc. The chalet sleeps 8 people and is available on a catered basis with breakfasts and other meals, or self-catered.
