Provence has long been renowned for its picturesque villages perchés – the pretty, hill-top settlements characterised by their medieval castles, timeless, twisting alleyways and lush surrounds of olive groves, vineyards and cherry orchards. One of the highlights of this 6-night walking and cycling holiday in Provence is the opportunity to explore so many of these iconic villages. Cycle self-guided between three high-quality hotels and be rewarded with wonderful views. Circular walking routes, meanwhile, provide an enjoyable contrast, as well as a closer, more detailed insight into the villages’ historic charms. Food is another hugely important aspect of the region, with fresh, seasonal produce such as olive oils, tomatoes and garlic on sale at many a local market and featuring in numerous local dishes. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to sample this delicious fare: perhaps as part of a leisurely lunchtime picnic or a relaxing dinner at a local restaurant – the perfect way to round off a full day of Provençal discovery.
