Hotel la Brèche de Roland is an 18th-century residence that's been lovingly restored and turned into a family hotel, now run by Odile and Philippe. It's in the village of Gèdre – in the heart of the stunning Garvanie valley – and at an altitude of 1000m, meaning it comes with magnificent views of the surrounding valley. A mecca for skier in winter, it's also a wonderful cycling base in summer. around 30km from the Tourmalet, Gavarnie sees regular visits from the Tour de France. The family restaurant at the hotel prides itself on its local produce, in particular the mutton, duck and regional garbure (pork and cabbage soup). Twin, double and triple rooms. Free car parking.
