The Var in Provence is famous for its seaside resorts and the glitz and glamour of the French Riviera, but venture a little inland behind the Cote d’Azur and you’ll discover wonderful scenery, rich countryside, quaint medieval villages and, of course, great food and wine. La Bastide de Correns on the outskirts of the ‘1st Organic Village in France’ has the perfect set up for cyclists, with accommodation for between 2 to 10 people in a self-catering house or private suites. There are great local cycling routes, including Cyclo Tourist 10 - Route de la Bauxite and Cyclo tourist 11 - Historic Villages of the Var, as well as an inland stage of the new EuroVelo 8 - The Mediterranean Route. This is an area of quiet back roads, gentle hills and valleys, vineyards, forests, gorges, lakes and rivers. Owners Pat and Aileen are also keen to share their own favourite routes. Off the bike, there are lots of artisan markets, activities and attractions, the highlight being the breathtaking Gorges du Verdon – the grand canyon of Europe. La Bastide de Correns has a pool for chilling out, plus a fitness and wellness centre, bike store, and washdown area. French and English spoken.
