Alpine Velo’s bike chalet in in the Tarentaise valley near Bourg-Saint-Maurice is a great, felxible base for self-guided road cycling holidays in the French Alps. The chalet is within easy reach of Col du Petit St Bernard, Col de l’Iseran, Cormet de Roseland and Col de la Madeleine, among others, or take a spin down around to the Tignes Valley or across to Albertville. There are also a number of good local rides that are less taxing on the legs, including a balcony tour through pretty Alpine villages. There's also a 12km riverside cycle path for riders less interested in tackling the cols. Non-cycling partners and kids can go whitewater rafting, horse riding or hiking (the ski lifts open July and August for both hikers and mountain bikers). This is flexible accommodation with half-board options in the main chalet plus self-catering available in a self-contained penthouse. Good for small and large groups. Prices include airport transfers for you and your bikes, making this a fuss-free base. There's also a sauna to ease tired muscles. Free wifi. French, English and Spanish spoken.
