This is a unique self-guided cycling holiday that proves that the City of Light is so much more than beautiful buildings and famous museums. Start your cycling just a few kilometres from Paris in Melun or Fontainebleau, the doors to Paris' royal countryside. Melun opens the gates to the famous forest of Fontainebleau, with trails along the river and a market rich in regional products. Discover must-see castles, Vaux le Vicomte and its French gardens "à la française”, the impressive castle of Fontainebleau, and cycle through the nearby imperial forest of Fontainebleau. Take in the royal city of Dourdan and the vast forest of Rambouillet, the valley of Chevreuse and – of course – the Palace of Versailles, where the Roi Soleil, King Louis XIV, awaits you; his masterpiece is fascinating. This is a wonderful tour offering an insight into the heart of the Parisian countryside. Pedal at your own pace along along cycle tracks and enjoy the delights of roads less travelled within easy reach of the capital. Enjoy some extra nights before and/or after your cycling tour to discover Paris itself. The starting price includes 4-5 nights' B&B in quality 3* and 4* hotels, full route notes and maps, including GPS app with voice guiding for smartphones, daily luggage transfers, and emergency phone call support 24/7. Bike hire (including electrics) also available on request.
