Elvina and Tim at Pyrenees View Holiday Gites provide a wonderful base from which to explore the foothills and the peaks of the Pyrenees. There are many TDF routes from the door – you can even ride into Spain and back! Within reach are Col de Portet d’Aspet, Col de Mente, Col des Ares, Cap de Nistos, Col d’Aspin, Col de Portillon, Superbagneres, Peyragaudes and Port de Bales. There are also easier options from the door. Lots of local knowledge is available in-house – or join Tim on his daily ride (he's a lifelong cyclist and a member of a local club). Bike stands and safe indoors bike storage, plus a pool for cooling off in after your ride. The gite is a bright and airy first-floor, self-contained apartment in a converted barn for up to 3 people. It has its own entrance and combines rustic French charm with the comforts of home, including a fully equipped kitchen and all the basics to get you started (fresh bread, tea, coffee, milk, juice, butter, jam, cereal and yogurt), plus a BBQ. Eat outdoors or take in the stunning 180-degree views of the Pyrenees from the front of the property. For more nature, there is a wood at the back of the property that's perfect for exploring – look out for deer, foxes, pine martins, hoopoes, woodpeckers, owls and birds of prey. Airport pickups and dropoffs available for Tarbes/Lourdes and Toulouse. The property is a short ride or walk from Saint-Gaudens, where you'll find supermarkets and a great weekly market, among other services. It also has local restaurants and takeaways. English, French and Italian spoken.

The beds were comfortable, there was a kettle and tea and coffee, plus a bar fridge. The Italian walk-in shower was wonderful. Breakfast was a smorgasbord of yoghurts, cereals, fruits, breads, coffees, teas, meats and smoked salmon. Doubles as well as larger rooms with a sofa bed for groups and children (plus a children's play corner in the breakfast/bar area). Super-friendly staff (English- and French-speaking).
