Roughly equidistant from Strasbourg (96km) and Nancy (84km), Saint Die des Vosges is also a handy 60km from Colmar, with the ride taking you through the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional des Ballons des Vosges. The hotel itself is in the centre of Saint Die des Vosges on the banks of the river Meurthe. It's 3-star with free wifi, and an onsite restaurant and bar. There's a small luggage store for bikes and kit, plus management advises bikes can be kept in rooms where space permits. Meuse, Lorraine (Grand Est)
Price from: €70

Close to the EuroVelo 19 Meuse cycle route and the voie verte, Logis Hotel Restaurant Le Relais is conveniently located for sightseeing around the Verdun battlefields. The hotel has an automated check-in outside core hours, and inside it’s clean and bright. There was a little patch of lawn, a hedge and some garden chairs behind our room – somewhere to relax in the sun and rig up a washing line to dry our cycling clothes. We locked our bikes to the window box, but there’s a small garage too. The rooms have a kettle for tea and coffee (still not that common for low and mid-range hotels in France). Photo: ©Logis Hôtels
