Tucked behind the glamour of the French Riviera is a slightly wilder and remote Provence where the lower mountains of the Alps seem within easy reach. The north of Provence contains some dramatic landscapes: deep gorges, wooded slopes and an intricate network of valleys connecting smaller and sleepier towns, villages and hamlets. This week-long tour – available fully guided or self-guided – allows you to visit this area with carefully prepared routes, starting from a high vantage point at Verdon with fantastic vistas in all directions and opportunities to splash about in cooling blue waters of the Med. From here back to the starting point you'll explore quiet lanes and hidden tracks as well as having time to visit some special spots on foot or in the water, such as the beauty of Cotignac or a take a bike ride out to the tranquillity of Sillans-la-Cascade and its 42-metre high waterfall. Prices include a welcome briefing, 6 nights' B&B, some lunches, transfers, high quality bikes and support.

Mont Ventoux Breakaway

44|5 Cycling Tours

Tour length:
2 days / 2 nights; there's also a 3-day option

The Ventoux Breakaway is ideal for time-crunched climbers who want to bag an ascent of Mont Ventoux, plus enjoy one more day of riding – and make it back to work on Monday. There is a basic 2-day option, plus a 3-day option that sees a Ventoux climb sandwiched between two guided rides in the heart of Provence (longer options also available). This is a great introduction to this beautiful part of southern France. Ventoux is an infamous Tour de France climb, but even if you aren’t a fan of cycle sport, this mountain presents an awesome challenge and, unlike the big cols of the Alps and Pyrenees, Ventoux is smack bang in the middle of ‘civilisation’, and there are virtually no other mountains of any size nearby. This makes it simple to access and within easy reach of Avignon, Nîmes, Montpellier, Arles, Aix-en-Provence or Marseilles.
