I had the following email query from Laurie in Canada. I'm posting the Q&A here in case anyone has further suggestions (or in case our answer can help others).

    Hello,
We are planning a trip to France for the last 2 weeks of August this summer (2011). We are renting a chalet for each week in the Saint-Emilion area. We want to rent bikes for the entire 2 week period and do day trips from the chalets at our leisure. We fly into Toulouse on the 19th of August and have rented a van so we will be able to transport bikes during our stay, and we hope to pick them up in Toulouse and carry on to our chalet, and drop them off  back in Toulouse . Or, I see you are based out of Bordeaux, which I believe is approx 30 kilometers from St. Emilion, so perhaps that is also a possibility.
Please can you provide me with all the information possible regarding your bike rentals, as in the price of rental for 3 hybrid type 24 to 27 speed bikes, pick up and delivery places, what is provided with the bikes, ie repair kits, saddle bags, etc., as well as anything else you think may be important.
Thank you in advance for your assistance. I hope you can help us.
    Sincerely,
    Laurie

    Hi Laurie

Thanks for your email, however we're not a bike rental company, but an independent information website for cycling in France.

I did have an enquiry recently from two other people wanting to hire bikes in Toulouse and Bordeaux.

You can see my answers (plus links to suggested rental companies) here:

    For Toulouse:

    For Bordeaux:

These guys may be able to deliver to you in Toulouse, Bordeaux or St-Emilion: http://www.veloloco.com/bike-rental/delivery.php

Aquitaine Bike Hire (http://www.aquitainebike.com) is located east of St Emilion in the Dordogne. They do deliver, though according to their website there would be an additional charge as St Emilion is more than 30km from their base. It might be worth asking for prices nonetheless.

I hope that helps. I'd be interested to hear how you get on and what you decide.

    Cheers
    Lyn.
